Haitian Food in Philadelphia.
Haitian Food in Philadelphia.
There are four Haitian restaraunts in Philadelphia. I have had the pleasure of eating at three of them. Fritay Lakay, Haitian Corner and La Cene resatuarant. La Cene Restaurant located in the North East section of Philadelphia is the best, while the Haitian Corner also located in the north east is a close second. Fritay Lakay is dead last because, there is a strange smell that hits you as you enter the store, in addition The interior of the store is very messy. The one bonus is they do apretty good job with Haitian Patties.
Haitian Corner is pretty nice restaurant. It is located in the Norht East section of Philadelphia. There is a wide variety of food to choose from, everything from the staples like Griot, Rice and Beans and fried plantains. The one glaring negative about the restaurant is the poor customer service. The waiters are young children who do not hide the fact that they do not want to work in the restaurant. A friend of mine had a complaint about the lack of seasoning on the food. I thought the food was seasoned just right.
La Cene the Restaurant I came across most recently is the best of the lot. There is a wide varierty of food to choose from. I was pleasenlty surprised when I noticed they had Boulette, (fried Meatballs). I had the fried chicken with rice and beans and a side of fried plantains. Another friend I was there with had the stewed chicken with her rice and beans. The Fried chicken was perfect, it was crispy on the outside but juicy and succulent on the inside. The rice was seasoned pretty well the cook my have been a little heavy handed with the use of cloves, but The rice was enjoyable nonetheless. Tha plantains were just right, crispy and savory. They were not too greasy, which i have experienced with some fried plantains I have purchased at restaurants.
